The first „Run for Calvary“ was fantastic

At Calvary in Banská Štiavnica, the first year „Run for Calvary“ was held, with a rich program and lots of participants. His main idea was to create a family and sports program for the general public while helping restore the Calvary.

The event took place in the area of the Calvary Information Center. Every participant who has passed the run circuit around the Calvary has won – thanks to the general partner – Mid-Slovak electricity company. – an aid of EUR 10 for its renewal.

In addition to the runner’s side, a rich accompanying program was waiting for the participants. Children could choose from various activities such as face painting, various activities that organized local scouts, jumping on a trampoline or Calvary drawing competition that was evaluated. With great reputation was met historically the first tournament in the play of the memory game, which was won by the 12-year-old Michal Maruniak from Banská Štiavnica. Like otherwise, it has been played with a brand new Calvary memory game.

From 10 a.m. to midday, an uncompetitive run took place with more than 330 participants of all ages. One of the participants even took the 10 rounds to win over € 100 for Calvary.

The highlight of the event was a competition run that took place in two stages. The hobby version included 1 circuit with a length of 2.4 km. 29 participants participated and only 15-year-old Juraj Maruniak from Banská Štiavnica with a record time of 0:12:17 was the winner. The second and third among the men were Filip Ivanič and Miloš Veverka from Banská Štiavnica. The winners in the category of women were Gabriela Fezekašová from Kozárovce with a time of 15 minutes, followed by another place of Vanesa Múdra from Banská Štiavnica and third finished Lenka Hrmová from Žiar nad Hronom.

63 athletes took part in the main course with a total length of up to 6.6 km. According to some, it was the most complicated run in their former sporting career. The youngest participant had 12, the oldest 81 years. The goal at the Calvary amphitheater was passed in front of audience by the winner Jakub Mészáros from Levice with the current track record of 0:25:11. Second and first were Jozef Gibal and Peter Pavlenda of Banská Štiavnica classified. Among men over 39 y. Peter Dodok was the first, second and third were Milan Furar and Milan Valočka with less than 30 minutes.

Among the women under 39 was the winner Ľubica Pauchová from Detva with time 0:31:40, the second was Carla Reistetterová from Banská Bystrica and third Paulina Binderová from club Fan club BB. Winner of the women’s category for over 39 years was Lucia Dodoková from the Beh club for joy, the second was won by Zuzana Sniagerova from B. Štiavnica and third by Jaroslav Lukačovič from Bratislava.
Even though the Behu ambition for Calvary is not competing with big events, besides the feeling of victory and overcoming itself, the Calvary assistance to the participants was a great motivation.

Kamil Chovan and Jozef Sýkora from Banská Štiavnica parish and Restaurant Under Kalváriou took care for the refreshment. Every participant in the circuit was entitled to free goulash and soft drink. The whole event is in a family spirit and a good mood. A total of almost 470 participants participated and the total amount raised grew to a nice 5,500 €. The conclusion was completed with raffle with a lot of interesting prices, thanks to the sponsors of the event. The event met with positive feedback and we are looking forward to continuing it in the next year.
