As we are systematically preparing for the openening of the Upper Church in october 2018, we continue with the restoration of three preserved Baroque statues of crucified on Golgotha. Two of them have been restored, the statues of the villains, crucified with Jesus. The sculptures, originally a much richer altar on Golgotha, were deposited in the premises of the Old Castle within the framework of the exhibition „Calvary in Asylum“. Restoration of the statue of the Crucified Christ is currently in progress.
The restoration work on the statues of villains Gesmas and Dismas consisted of fixing the polychrome, cleaning the secondary layers, gluing of broken parts, finishing of missing parts, scrub fumigation, sealing, chalking and final coloring. Röngen imaging was also done on sculptures for the necessary research and preparation of the works.
