Weather has been inadvertently reporting the arrival of the coldest season of the year, and work in the Calvary exteriors is slowly moving to restoration studios. Since the Upper Church restoration has begun some time has elapsed, a large portion of the restored entrance portal has been added, and the restoration of interior frescoes has been intensified. At the end of the summer, part of its facade was covered, so we could uncover the entire back part from the non-original layers so that we could proceed more quickly in the next year. Larger work was hampered by limited funding and new findings, which make us pleasure but requires another investment.
During the winter, another statue of crucified from the main Altar will be restored in the restoration studio and also the tabernacle, of which only fragments have been preserved.
Fresco itself is almost complete, final works are planned for the summer of 2018. In addition to our general partner, the estoration of frescoes was carried out also thanks to support from Foundation EPH, which also supported the repair of sidewalks and other sections of the supporting wooden railing (between the Ecce Homo and The Circumcision ) and also building other parts of the security camera system. We finished this works in the autumn of 2017.
As every year before the winter, now in November, Calvary had to prepare for its arrival. It is connected with cleaning all the troughs from the leaves, cleaning the construction waste and closing of the wooden door of the chapels.
Calvaria, however, does not lose anything of its beauty during winter, it only changes its appearance, so we cordially invite you to visit it. Calvary visited 70,000 visitors in 2017 and so there were days when the Infocentre at the first chapel was overcrowded. Do not forget to visit it. The entrance is free and you can perhaps find a nice gift for your loved ones.
